LYNX LIVE HOMECOMING CONCERT

I designed the Lynx Live Homecoming Concert campaign for the Campus Activities Team. Lynx Live is the University of Colorado Denver's 3rd annual homecoming concert where the Battle of the Bands winner is invited to open for a featured artist. This event was held at the Tivoli Quad and was organized by CU Denver's Campus Activities Team. The homecoming concert is an exciting opportunity for students to see a major live music event on campus and make lasting memories with the CU community.

The headliner of this event was Rebecca Black, an avant-garde DJ and pop star. In the initial meeting with CAT’s marketing and design division, we decided that the event’s identity would be in line with Rebecca Black’s existing brand of bold black type with distressed and flashy pink paper backgrounds. The brand collateral would pay homage to 2000s cultural touchpoints such as Von Dutch merchandise, leopard print items, and bucket hats.

The Poster

I began by scanning distressed paper and inputting those into Photoshop. Using blending modes and the primary brand colors for this event, I created a series of modular backgrounds to be used across all marketing materials. I edited the full color Rebecca Black photo from her list of approved photos into a tricolor version for marketing. I used this asset as the focal point for the main posters to emphasize that she is the headliner. I created a concert ticket graphic to communicate the date and location of the event. To communicate details of the concert timeline, I created a program with separate registers that had the times and names of each performance.

All the elements create an exciting collage-style flyer that reflects the brand of Rebecca Black.

Marketing Material

To boost awareness of the Homecoming Concert on and off campus, I collaborated with the marketing and design division of CAT to produce digital and physical assets. Using the system I created for the poster, I adapted the assets into website banners, sidewalk stickers, yard signs, and Instagram posts. These assets feature QR codes where people can purchase or claim their tickets.

Motion Graphics

As the introductory post of this event, the CAT supervisor asked me to create two motion videos of the headliner, Rebecca Black, and one of the openers, N3PTUNE. I used Adobe After Effects to edit the videos and created paper crumpling transitions for an eye-catching effect.

Merchandise

An important part of the Lynx Live Homecoming Campaign were the free physical touchpoints for audience members. I designed a parody Lynx Live trucker cap in the style of Von Dutch hats, stickers, and hand fans.

Discussion

The Lynx Live Homecoming Concert campaign was a successful initiative I spearheaded with the collaboration of the Campus Activities Team. The campaign boosted attendance of Lynx Live from 40 guests to 1675 guests (~4000% increase). The CAT team was very happy with my work and I enjoyed collaborating with the marketing and design division to create a memorable campaign.
